Another birthday has come and gone, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to invite you into my little corner of the world. Consider this a peek behind the scenes and a chance to get to know the person behind North and Palm, along with a few of my favorite things.
Celebrating birthdays looks a little different these days than it did in my twenties, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. These days, I find joy in the simple things: a leisurely lunch, time spent with the one I love, and a quiet afternoon at home.
Since my birthday landed on a Tuesday this year, we celebrated a little early with a Sunday outing to one of our favorite local restaurants, Fishcamp in Port Royal. Sitting right on the water, it's the kind of place where time seems to slow down. I couldn't resist ordering the fish tacos, which somehow taste even better with a waterfront view.

As I'm writing this, I'm realizing we've unintentionally started a birthday tradition. For the past three years, lunch has been followed by a trip to Lowe's. In years past, it was fueled by my ever-growing plant collection. This year, however, my shopping list looked a little different.
I've officially entered my birdwatching era.
What began as hanging a feeder outside has quickly turned into learning the names of every feathered visitor that stops by. Now I find myself making sure the feeders are full, keeping fresh water available, and getting entirely too excited when a new bird makes an appearance. Somewhere along the way, I've become a proud bird mother... and I have absolutely no regrets.
One thing I've never quite figured out how to answer is the inevitable birthday question:
"What do you want for your birthday?"
My answer is almost always the same.
"Nothing."

It's probably a little irrational, but I've never liked feeling as though I'm putting someone out... even when that someone is my husband.
This year was no different.
Then I had a thought. Why not choose something that's been sitting in my Amazon cart for ages? Like many people, my cart has become a collection of things I've loved, wanted, or simply couldn't justify buying at the time.
So, after much deliberation, I finally picked something that had been patiently waiting...
A bread maker.
I have a feeling this may become my newest obsession. I can already picture fresh loaves cooling on the counter, homemade cinnamon bread, pizza dough, and all the little baking adventures that come with learning something new. I can't wait to share that journey with you.
Of course, no birthday feels complete without cake.

Growing up, my mom always made a "Mock Blueberry Cheesecake," better known as Nova Scotia Blueberry Sour Cream Cake. It's been a tradition for as long as I can remember and one of those recipes that instantly feels like home.
This year, I decided to create my own version.
Instead of blueberries, I chose raspberries and peaches, giving a cherished family favorite a little coastal-inspired twist. At this point, I have no idea exactly how it will turn out, but that's part of the fun, isn't it? I will add an edit to let you know how it turned out. :)
Looking back, the last few days weren't filled with anything extravagant.
They were filled with quiet moments, good food, a beautiful view, a little baking, a thoughtful gift, and time spent with the person I love most.
And honestly...
I can't think of a better way to celebrate another trip around the sun.
Thank you for joining me for this first little glimpse into my world. I hope you'll stop by again soon as I continue sharing life here on the South Carolina coast, the creative journey behind North and Palm, and perhaps a loaf of homemade bread... or two.
Until next time,
xoxo
